CHOBE Photographic Safari
4 Days    Option to add 3 nights

This Photographic Safari takes you to Chobe National Park in Northern Botswana and works well as an extension to an existing safari in Botswana, Namibia or South Africa. The Serondela area (or Chobe riverfront) where we will be concentrating on is situated in the extreme Northeast of the park featuring lush floodplains and dense woodland of mahogany, teak and other hardwoods now largely reduced by heavy elephant pressure. The Chobe, which flows along the Northeast border of the park, is a major watering spot, especially in the dry season (May through October) for large breeding herds of elephants, as well as families of giraffe, sable and cape buffalo. The flood plains are the only place in Botswana where the puku antelope can be seen. Birding is also excellent here. Large numbers of carmine bee eaters are spotted in season. When in flood spoonbills, ibis, various species of stork, duck and other waterfowl flock to the area. The african fish eagle is very present along the Chobe and will put the soundtrack to our time spent here. Other species that will present excellent low level photo opportunities from the water are hippos, crocodiles and the famous african jacana.

The Chobe Princess Safari Houseboat provides an ideal platform to view the abundant wildlife of the Chobe National Park. Being on the river allows you to get closer to the large variety of game mentioned earlier. Chobe is fast becoming one of the most sought after destinations for both amateur and professional photographers wanting access to some of the best wildlife and birding photo opportunities in Africa. Arguably one of the best destinations for Fish Eagle photography. To take full advantage of these amazing opportunities Ichobezi offers a specialized photographic boat that has been custom designed with wildlife photography in mind. It provides stability and has gimbal heads compatible with almost any lens. The specially designed chairs provide full pan and tilt and uninterrupted 360 degree views allowing you full access to the scenery and wildlife around you. The photographic boat is definitely an added bonus and a huge highlight of this tour.

The Chobe Princess provides the ultimate safari cruise experience with the opportunity to stay overnight within the Chobe National Park at prime docking sites along the river. Cruising on the Chobe River at a slow pace cannot be described in a few words but is definitely an experience not to be missed by wildlife photographers. Ichobezi is one of few safari boat operations that are allowed to overnight on the river in the heart of Chobe. The relatively small boats provide  with a maximum number of 8 guests provides a nice feeling of intimacy.

After lunch you will have some time to prepare your photographic gear for the first afternoon session on the Photographic Motorized Boat at around 15:00. Other species to look out for are Crocodiles, Hippos, African Jacanas, Lechwe and Puku which only occurs in this region. African Fish Eagle are abundant and will surely present good opportunities. After early morning coffee we will board the Photographic Boat for our morning session just before sunrise so that no photo opportunities are missed in the golden hour. After this boat ride in search of “Perfect Moments” comes to an end we will head back to the Safari Boat for a deserved hearty breakfast at around 09:30 that will get our energy back on track. Now is the time to relax or join your tour leader for a casual workshop were selected images from the morning session can be reviewed, discussed and processed together. During this time the Safari Boat will begin a slow cruise to its next docking point on the Chobe River. During the cruise you will be able to enjoy the incredible scenery as it unfolds around you and even capture some great shots. Once we have reached the docking site you will be able to go with your guide in your private photographic boat for an exciting evening session that will be full of great opportunities.
