WILD POLAND PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPEDITION

Accommodation
WILD POLAND Photographic Expedition
9 Days

This amazing Photographic Expedition takes you to the best that Wild Poland has to offer. Bialowieza National Forest for the European Bison and Central Poland for the White-Tailed Eagles.

Also known as the "Last Untouched Wilderness of Europe", Białowieża National Park is the only one of its kind among the 23 national parks you can find in Poland. Its inner zone belongs to the realm of old-growth forest which has been living without much human intervention for almost 800 years. It is home to the world's largest population of European Bison, the continent's largest land animal. Bialowieza Forest is home to more than 500 individuals living in total freedom. For most of the time they seem to be invisible but as you get closer to the end of the autumn season and through the winter it is possible to see these great creatures in their natural environment. When its colder outside they do not run away and accept our presence near them for longer time than just a few seconds. Even short , weekend visits are usually sufficient to meet the king of the primeval forest.

The White-Tailed Eagle is the largest bird of prey in Poland . . . These impressive birds will be shot from permanent bird hides in a location in Central Poland. Alongside eagles you will have great photographic opportunities with ravens, buzzards and even fox show up quite often. Cranes can also be possible if they have arrived early.

On this tour you may also encounter other species like fox, roe deer, woodpeckers, owls and if lucky . . . lynx and wolves.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Warsaw International Airport ( WAW ) you will be met and transferred to the selected hotel in Central Poland for your 4 night stay. This hotel is conveniently located about an hour from Warsaw Airport and within 25 minutes from the photographic hides and has all the facilities you would expect. Mario will meet all participants for dinner and a brief introduction of the exciting days ahead.

Day 2-4

You will be up well before sunrise as we need to be at the hides before the sun is out. After an early breakfast you will be driven in 4x4 vehicles to the Bird Hide location just 25 minutes away. The hides accommodate 3 - 4 photographers comfortably in individual chairs. Stands with 3/4 threads are available to mount gimbal heads and very important . . . the hides all have gas heaters to make the long day as warm as possible. A toilet is also available in each hide. Days are very long . . . expect to be in the hide for about 10 hours straight without being able to leave it until after sunset. Packed lunch will be available every day

Day 5

After breakfast you will be transferred by road to Bialowieza National Forest. No wildlife photography today as we will need at least 4 hours to get to Bialowieza. By the time we arrive it will be late for photography but an interesting workshop session is possible on arrival before dinner to review images and discuss processing techniques, etc ...

Day 6-8

An early wake up call and a hearty breakfast will be the start of an exciting day ahead. The next 3 days are all about the largest wild mammal in Europe. Our guide will drive the group around the Bialowieza area in search of the Bisons. Once they are spotted we will park the vehicles and slowly make our way on foot to position the group for the best angles. We will move around for different angles and light following instructions given out by Mario and the professional field guide leading the group. The days will be divided into a morning session until 11:30 or 12:00 and an afternoon session until the good light is over. In between sessions will be used to either rest or for those interested, review images and discuss photoshop and Lightroom techniques.

Day 9

After breakfast we will make our way back to Warsaw International Airport in  time for your flight back home. The road transfer will be take approximately 4 hours so it will be hard to get in a last photo session on day 9. It will be considered and discussed however, on the last night depending on departure flight times.
