1 Mar to 10 Mar

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be met and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge, a charming coffee farm just outside Arusha. Mario Moreno, your safari leader, will be expecting you and will join you for dinner after which he will give you a pre-trip briefing.

After breakfast at the Coffee Lodge a short 40 minute light aircraft charter flight will take you to Lake Manyara in the Great Rift Valley. After checking in at Lake Manyara Tree lodge you will have time to take in the stunning panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley or prepare your photographic gear before lunch. From the Tree Lodge we will explore the valley in search of photographic opportunities. Large herds of elephant and giraffe, flamingos, hippos, monkeys and the famous tree climbing lions are just a few examples of what we will encounter. A total of 4 game drives will be enjoyed while at Lake Manyara.

We will start this leg with the last early morning drive around Lake Manyara before heading to the airstrip where  we will board our charter flight into the heart of the Serengeti. We will be met and driven to an idyllic african setting hidden in an acacia forest in the Ndutu area where our mobile tented camp has been specially set up in the right location to coincide with the wildebeest calving season. Each day while in the Serengeti we will explore the great plains in the early morning and late afternoon when the light is right for amazing wildebeest migration photography and the predators that stalk them. We will also search for leopards in the woodlands. A total of 8 game drives will be enjoyed while in the Serengeti.

After our last early morning drive in the Serengeti we will be driven to the airstrip to board the light aircraft for a 40 min flight to Ngorongoro Crater. After checking in at the Crater Lodge, the most famous lodge in Africa, we will descend down into the crater floor for a picnic lunch. The photo opportunities in the crater are fantastic and you will be presented with the crater’s 600 mt high walls as a stunning background. Here we will find some of the largest tuskers in Africa.

Day 10

On our last day we will enjoy an early morning drive in the crater before making our way back to the airstrip for our final air transfer back to Arusha where you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.

2013 - 2014 DATES

The “ Great Plains “ safari takes you to the world famous Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater which makes it a once in a lifetime experience and one of the best wildlife photographic safari destinations in the African continent. In the Serengeti you will witness the wildebeest calving season, one of the most spectacular wildlife events in Africa. Ngorongoro Crater, as one of the natural wonders of the world, needs no further introduction but will point out that it is home to some of the largest Tusker Elephants in Africa.  On our way to the main attractions we will visit the western side of the Great Rift Valley to explore Lake Manyara with it’s impressive herds of elephants and giraffes, flamingos and the famous tree climbing lions.

A highlight of this photographic safari are the predators that follow the wildebeest migration. There will be a lot of predator action so lion and cheetah sightings are guaranteed and even witnessing a kill will be fairly easy. We will also search for the elusive leopards in the woodlands.

1 night upon arrival at Arusha Coffee Lodge where Mario Moreno will be expecting you and will join you for dinner. 2 nights will be spent in Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, 4 nights in a mobile camp in Serengeti at Serengeti Under Canvas and 2 nights on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater at the  Ngorongoro Crater Lodge known as one of the best lodges in Africa.

The Serengeti spans some 30,000 square km ( 12,000 sq mi ) and hosts the largest mammal migration in the world. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language, Maa “Serengit” meaning endless plains. February marks the start of this great migration, coinciding with the calving season and preceding the long rainy season. Approximately 500,000 calves are born within a 2 to 3 week period that join the 1.8 million wildebeest and 500,000 zebra that in turn attract a great number of predators.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area ( NCA ) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated 180 km west of Arusha in the crater highlands of Tanzania. The Ngorongoro Crater is a large volcanic caldera that lies within the conservation area and is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and it adjoins the Serengeti National Park to the north-west. The crater has a population of approximately 25,000 large animals and reputedly the highest concentration of predators in Africa. It is 610 m deep and covers 260 sq km with a diameter of approximately 20 km making it an extremely special sight to see and of course to photograph.
