Addo Elephant National Park has expanded to conserve a wide diversity of biodiversity, landscapes, fauna and flora and is now the third largest national park in South Africa. Stretching from the semi-arid karoo area in the north around Darlington Dam, over the rugged Zuurberg Mountains, through the Sundays River valley and south to the coast between Sundays River mouth and Bushman’s river mouth, Addo covers about 180 000 hectares (444 700 acres) and includes 5 biomes of the 9 that South Africa has.

3 nights will be spent at Gorah Elephant Camp’s 5000 hectare private concession that lies deep in the heart of malaria-free Addo Elephant National Park. This exclusive safari lodge, member of Relais & Chateaux, recaptures the romantic mystique of authentic safaris of past centuries. Gorah Elephant Camp is not fenced so walking outside the confines of your tent deck and main camp areas are not recommended. For more about Gorah please click here

This park offers some of the most spectacular elephant photography in the world which will be the focus of this photographic safari. Other photographic opportunities include lion, buffalo, spotted hyena, zebra and antelope species like kudu, red hartebeest eland and bushbuck. Leopards do occur in Addo but are very seldom seen.

A typical day at Addo will include and early morning Game Drive ( 3.5 hours ) followed by a hearty breakfast. Then it’s time relax at Gorah Elephant Camp until lunch time or meet with your safari leader who will be available during this time to  discuss photo techniques and review images. Lunch at 13:00 and then some more time to relax or work on images. At approximately 16:00 we will depart on our evening game drive until the sun goes down. At our return to camp dinner will be ready to finish off a perfect day. All times are flexible and will depend on sightings.

This photographic safari accommodates a maximum of 6 photographers distributed in 2 vehicles allowing each photographer to have one complete row in order to facilitate shooting from both sides without disturbing other fellow photographers. Those photographers accompanied by their non-photographer spouses/partners will share their row of seats. Discounts are available for non-photographers accompanying a photographer.
